Project Manager (Rail)

Location: Pontypridd (Hybrid)

Salary: £37,200 – £46,500 per annum

Overview

We are currently seeking a Project Manager to deliver transport related projects to improve transport services in line with Welsh Government transport policy and strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities for the Project Manager (Rail):

Undertake early lifecycle project delivery, by following the plan of works, including scoping, to support successful delivery of the programmes.
Deliver a range of transport related projects, by applying robust project lifecycle methodologies (such as APM or PRINCE 2), implementing the project plan, schedule of all tasks, key milestones and resource management to ensure these are completed safely to time, cost and quality.
Provide a professional and effective project management service, including project governance, reporting, technical working groups and executive steering groups, in accordance with the required processes and timelines to ensure the projects are aligned to company processes and delivered to cost and quality.
Manage the project budget by liaising with the appropriate Finance Business Partner and the Senior Project Manager, escalating any variances where required to ensure costs remain within the agreed budged.
Manage and lead project teams by collaborating with internal colleagues and external contractors, stakeholders and supply chain to ensure projects meet deliver outcomes.
Identify and monitor project risks, including financial, reputational, quality, environmental and health and safety, collaborating with the appropriate risk professionals and managing the risk register to ensure the company can implement effective mitigation.
Develop supplier and delivery partnerships within the Welsh economy by working with SMEs and other suppliers in local supply chains, increasing the proportion of services undertaken by Welsh based businesses and reduce the aggregate cost of schemes.
Facilitate lessons learnt reviews at project completion by working with the project delivery teams and partners to discuss best practice and future changes to ensure continuous improvement to project delivery.

Skills and Qualifications for the Project Manager (Rail):

Relevant degree such as Business, Engineering (or similar) or equivalent experience.
Have a project management qualification such as APM or PRINCE2 or similar.
Demonstrable experience of the early-stage project delivery.
Proven experience of working on a variety of transport sector related projects as a Project Manager, specifically rail related projects.
Experience of working and engaging with internal and external stakeholders, as well as transport clients.
Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in support of a strong safety culture.
Demonstrable experience of managing a budget, including forecasting and monitoring spend.
A basic understanding of the application of Future Generations Act, Better Business Case Five, Case Model and WelTAG in relation to transport projects.

Desirable for the Project Manager (Rail):

Knowledge of CDM standards.
Knowledge and experience of contract management.
Experience of digital delivery in advice / design services.
Welsh language skills but not essential for the role.
Experience of working with the public sector and/or government officials
