Location: Crewe

Purpose of the Role

To be a driving force in maintaining the safety, reliability, and performance of our rail assets. You’ll lead the charge in preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and technical support—ensuring our fleet runs smoothly and safely across the network. Your work will directly contribute to the success of our operations and the satisfaction of our customers.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

Maintenance & Engineering Excellence

  • Deliver high-quality, compliant maintenance of rail assets in line with industry standards.
  • Complete detailed maintenance records and documentation with precision.
  • Execute modifications and repairs using approved instructions and procedures.
  • Provide on-call support and attend out-of-course incidents to offer expert technical advice and repairs.

Safety & Compliance

  • Champion safety by adhering to all notices, bulletins, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain exceptional housekeeping standards and safe systems of work.
  • Undertake Designated Person duties when requested.

Systems & Procedures

  • Operate within the framework of Engineering Procedures including Maximo, MOW, COSHH, and Depot Protection.

  • Comply with the Official Secrets Act 1911 & 1989.

  • Team Size: National Engineering Production Team of up to 75

What You’ll Bring

Qualifications

  • NVQ in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Time-served in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

Experience

  • Hands-on experience with traction and/or rolling stock
  • Familiarity with DRS assets and operations

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of DRS locomotives and rolling stock
  • IT proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, Maximo, GENIUS, TOPS)
  • Effective communicator with a flexible work ethic
  • Organized, time-efficient, and a great listener
  • Problem-solving mindset

Certifications & Training

  • Driving license
  • PTS (or willingness to obtain)
  • DP Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Core training: Manual Handling, Fire Safety, Driver Assessment
  • Technical training: Axle Bearing Maintenance, Fleet Competence
