We’re on the lookout for a Skilled Train Maintainer/Driver to join our busy Engineering team. In this dual-skilled role, you’ll be responsible for servicing and moving our trains across the depot – helping us deliver a safe, clean and reliable service for millions of customers across the North.

This is a role of purpose – Whether you’re inspecting units, supporting key maintenance tasks, or shunting trains to the right place at the right time, you’ll be contributing to our overall mission of improving rail travel.

 

Can you see yourself:

Keeping Things on Track: Conducting maintenance, fault finding, servicing, and and prepping trains for service, ensuring our trains are safe and ready for service every day.
Driving Depot Performance—Safely moving and positioning units around the maintenance depot, to keep the engineering plan on track.
Team Working: Collaborating with a dedicated Engineering Team to maintain and service our traction and rolling stock to the highest standards whilst working flexibly across shifts, including nights and weekends.
Focusing on Safety: With concentration being your greatest ally, you’ll adhere to safety regulations and follow all working instructions, safety procedures, whilst ensuring a clean and secure working environment.

 

Are you:

Technically Skilled? 

With engineering qualifications to NVQ level 3 in Engineering. Experienced in working with mechanical and electrical systems in a hands-on environment
Sharp Focused? The ability to troubleshoot in a fast-paced, technical environment.
Flexible? To adapt to the varying demands of train maintenance and operational needs.
Proactive? With the initiative and motivation and drive to lead by example and uphold the highest safety standards.
Motivated? The drive to be the engine behind our operations, carrying out maintenance and repairs that keep our trains moving forward.
A Strong Team Player? Who can communicate clearly, stay calm under pressure, and follow detailed instructions.
Ready to learn something new—committed to completing our full driver training programme and staying compliant.
You don’t need previous train driving experience – we’ll provide full training over several months.

 

You’ll start with 6 weeks of classroom-based learning in Leeds or Manchester, followed by practical training on-site with our depot teams.

 

Please note this role is safety critical and is subject to Rail Safety & Standards Board (RSSB) regulations. You MUST meet the following criteria for this position, or your application will be automatically rejected;

Currently live within a 45-minute car journey from the station you work from.
Be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
Pass the safety critical medical assessment, including drugs and alcohol screening.
Not have defective colour vision.
