We have an excellent opportunity to join our operations team as a Train Planner (STP) manager based at The Hub Colchester.

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Train Planner to join our team. As a Train Planner, your primary responsibility will be to produce amended train plans that align with customer requirements, while optimiing performance and reducing costs for the business. You will also ensure that all work streams associated with amended train plans are completed within company and industry timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop amended train plans that meet customer needs and deliver optimal performance while minimising costs.
  • Coordinate with Route and Fleet teams to gather necessary information and ensure smooth execution of train plans.
  • Collaborate with Network Rail and other Train Operating Companies to facilitate seamless operations and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Work closely with Abellio Rail Replacement to coordinate train-to-bus replacement services, ensuring the overall plan is realistic, efficient, and achievable.
  • Provide assistance to the long-term Planning Team as required.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the Lead Planner (Training and Development).

  • Have a friendly, approachable demeanor with the ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communication
  • Are calm under pressure, able to think on their feet, and able to handle various situations
  • Possess a “can-do” attitude and enjoy working as part of a team
  • A problem solver, as the role will encounter many different situations, whilst always maintaining integrity.
  • Candidates should have effective organizational abilities. Familiarity with utilizing new technologies, specifically train planning IT systems such as Voyager plan, as well as proficiency in using the Microsoft Office package would be required.
