Train Planning Placement

This is a 15-month undergraduate placement opportunity is to support the Train Planning team with their core activities. These can include timetable planning, resource diagramming and the administration of engineering work requests with the successful candidate being deployed within the team to respond to business needs. You will be trained y in the processes and software that a Train Planner requires to deliver the required tasks within a specified timeframe.

The Undergraduate Placement Scheme is located within the heart of the busy Train Planning Unit and the successful applicants will be part of a team of around 60 planners. Successful candidates will be expected to be functioning and productive members of the team with appropriate training and support.

Applicants Will Need

To be a registered undergraduate university student on a course with a year in industry placement. This opportunity is ideal for students on a transport, geography or logistics related degree programme, but students on other sandwich degree courses with a keen interest in rail are also welcome to apply.
An understanding of the railway industry, its framework and operation.
Strong IT skills, specifically Microsoft Excel and Word, with an ability to learn additional specialist techniques and packages as required.
An ability to self-organise and manage tasks efficiently to achieve strict and tight deadlines.
Analytical skills, initiative and an ability to communicate effectively.
An accurate, clear, methodical and responsible approach to work.

 

The contract for the position is expected to last from July 2023 until September 2024.

The Planning Unit is located at London King’s Cross Station.

The successful applicant will receive £25,500 p.a. plus annual leave and other benefits including a combination of free and discounted rail travel (depending on location).
