Our Infrastructure Maintenance division employs over 15,000 people. Our in-house maintenance operation allows us to work as one team, maintaining signal, track, electrification and telecoms equipment.
About the role (External)
As a Track Charge worker, you’ll help to maintain 20,000 miles of track across the UK and help keep Britain on the move.
TRACK QUALITY
You’ll lead a small team of trackworkers rectifying faults and restoring track geometry to the correct profile. Activities will include lifting and packing and other minor works in accordance with the work plan. You’ll need to report any further track faults which cannot be rectified satisfactorily back to the Section Manager.
INSPECTION
You’ll lead a small team in patrolling the track to ensure its fit for trains to run, that all assets are in good order, to rectify minor faults and report any defects that need attention.
Once inspections are completed, you and the team will carry out minor maintenance on items reported and assist in any further track maintenance activities when required.
PRODUCTION
You’ll take charge of a small team delivering heavy maintenance works in possessions, and you’ll assist in leading staff in elements of this work which could range from boxing in ballast, to changing units of S&C.
We’re looking for someone who’s driven and results-orientated, with a first class knowledge of track maintenance.
You’ll be a conscientious and reliable team player, happy to make decisions and able to get the best out of your team by leading from the front. You will be safety focussed and able to work following strict safety procedures.

- Experience of leading and supervising teams?
- A wealth of track maintenance knowledge and are looking to take on further responsibilities?
- PTS, COSS and ideally ES?
- A clean, UK driving licence?

- Committed to working safely at all times?
This position is safety critical and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing and a pre-employment medical.
