Location: Cardiff
Salary: Starting £42,016 + 20% Shift Allowance with a 6 months’ probation, on completion of competencies the salary will rise to £44,642
Shifts: Mixture of Mornings, Days and Nights 40 hours a week.
Qualification Required: Apprenticeship to minimum City and Guilds/ BTEC level with Mechanical / Electrical / electronic bias and NVQ level 3.
Responsibilities:
• Undertake fault finding and identify the associated repair required
• Undertake and provide support across the business for all condition monitoring and manually monitored systems on the train and its interfaces
• Provide assistance and technical feedback to the RAMS / Performance Engineer and depot production teams on technical incidents, including Line of Route Technicians as required
• Review and summarise faults, failures and actions taken by depot production teams as required by the RAMS / performance Engineer
• Provide mentoring and support for other members of the production team.
• Inform, negotiate and persuade their manager(s) and fellow colleagues to lead and support the development and implementation of improved systems and ways of working across the business
• Observe all the rules and regulations related to health and safety practices, including a tidy workplace and disposing of substances with a high environmental impact
• The post holder determines the best possible order of tasks to be performed in consultation with the (Shift) Production Manager, as well as how to work with the equipment available and the work instructions / maintenance list, based on knowledge and experience
• Act as systems specialists (systems to be distributed throughout the team)
• Lead and represent function / project in relation to best practice
• Support and assist in the development of robust and complex technical files to underpin engineering change submissions and business cases
• Supplement SRMS or other relevant reporting systems and documents as required, including the checking off of the maintenance list and the entering of hours worked. This includes working with tablets, smart phones and mobile applications
• Perform functional system tests on mechanical, electrical, electronic and software systems and performing specific measurements as prescribed/required
• Perform work in accordance with work instructions and Safety Procedures whilst contributing to create and / or update these instructions as required
• Ensure that parts for overhaul, repair or research are delivered to the warehouse, and records this in the system
• Monitor unit/train performance and become involved in escalated repeat failures, to ensure prompt diagnosis and rectification is achieved in line with availability requirements as well as providing feedback on lessons learnt
• Investigate ideas for safety and performance modifications and component enhancements with support from the RAMS/Performance Engineer and depot production team members
• Responsible for reporting defective plant and equipment in use
• Investigate and provide detailed reports on reliability, availability and safety incidents, including testing and recovery of trains involved in incidents
• Maintain the correct paperwork wherever required, e.g. particularly, in the case of warranty claims and Post Incident Testing
• Initiate and where authorised implement action to prevent the occurrence of product non-conformances, rail safety, HSQ&E/QHSE incidents, process deficiencies or system deficiencies
• Ensures Investigations carried out in accordance and with procedures and corrective actions are completed within the specified timeframe
Role Requirements:
• Extensive professional engineering experience in (rolling stock) maintenance ideally but will consider individuals from an Avionics/Automotive or HGV background
• Knowledge and experience in modern technical systems and fault finding techniques and the interaction between these, conducting and leading complex root cause investigations and reading electrical / mechanical schematics competently
• Ability to work as part of a team, going above and beyond were required
