Are you ready to start a new and rewarding journey? We are looking for a motivated Supervisor to join our dynamic team at Basingstoke, where you’ll play a crucial role in delivering safe and efficient works across the station and surrounding infrastructure. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your leadership, planning, and management skills, setting you up for potential future roles such as Section Manager.
Key Responsibilities: As a Supervisor at Basingstoke, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Lead Teams: Take charge of weekend works and abnormal operations, overseeing or assisting teams to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently. You’ll run regular staff meetings to engage your team on upcoming projects, overtime requests, and training needs, helping create a collaborative and proactive work environment.
- Effective Planning: Work with a variety of disciplines, including S&T, Welding, and ETM, to plan and deliver work safely. You’ll also coordinate the use of essential machinery, such as General Purpose Cranes and Road Rail Vehicles, ensuring that all reactive and planned works are carried out with the correct staffing and competencies in place.
- Management Experience: Gain hands-on experience with responsibilities such as creating rosters for planned works, managing staff fatigue, and assessing team competencies. This exposure will deepen your understanding of workforce management and help you identify team strengths and areas for development.

About the role (External)
Key Accountabilities:
- Supervise and check the quality of work delivered and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
- Carryout work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements and other instructions.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Undertake specific inspections in accordance with standards as directed.
- Prioritize work arising.
- Prepare work and resource specifications and method statements including Safe System of Work Plans.
- Assisting the development of work plans that enables work to be delivered safely, efficiently, and compliant to standards.
- Assisting the identification and proposal of asset renewals.
- Assisting the allocation of resources.
- Deliver work in accordance with the relevant maintenance plans.
- Provide appropriate information to update systems, databases, and records.
- Undertake program of staff surveillance, work quality, compliance and asset condition check as directed.
- Assisting the management, control and discipline of staff as directed.
- Assisting the monitoring and review of staff competence and welfare.
- Contribute to your own development and that of others.
Experience, skills, knowledge, and competencies
- Experience of directing and supervising worksites and the safe and efficient delivery of work.
- Knowledge of resource and work organization/planning processes and systems.
- Knowledge and experience of rail testing & lubrication inspection, maintenance, renewal, and asset condition assessment techniques.
- Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures, and instructions.
- Awareness of cost and waste control techniques.
- Able to demonstrate, promote, and embed safe working behaviors within the team.
- Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Able to coach, influence and develop others.
- Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post and required by business need.
- Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained the appropriate level of knowledge gained through equivalent relevant experience.
- Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
