We are recruiting for the role of Maneuverer Maintainer at our Reading Train Care Depot.

What is a Manoeuvrer?

This role is similar to a Depot Train Driver, which involves driving various types of trains at Reading Maintenance Depot (maybe required to work at other LTV locations at times) within Railway rules and regulations and the GWR Local Depot Operating Instructions. The role is responsible for moving trains across a maintenance depot, preparing them ready for service, carrying out shunting duties, light maintenance and general train fault finding. These are integral parts of this role.

A large part of the role involves communicating effectively to the highest standard, to Depot colleagues, signallers and mainline drivers, to ensure a smooth transition between train movements, maintenance work and preparation of trains ready for mainline service.

If successful, you will need to be organised in completing reports at the end of your shift, able to work alone for long periods of time, while maintaining concentration and working to tight deadlines.

We need you to be able to demonstrate excellent safety awareness and be open to improvements, while willing to accept change, be flexible and used to working shifts, including night shifts, which span 24 hours a day and seven days a week and includes weekends and bank holidays.

As a minimum you’ll need to have experience of working shifts, excellent communication skills along with knowledge of the phonetic alphabet.

Experience of working alone and with a team, whilst having a methodical approach to your work. Knowledge of the operational railway would be a benefit but not essential.

All successful candidates are required to successfully pass a rigorous psychometric Assessment Centre and medical, which incorporates hearing and / visual examination (the Ishihara colour vision test and a drugs test.)
