Full job description
Our small policy team works to influence the critical frameworks that help freight grow. That could be new railway rules, planning law, regional strategies, investment, decarbonization and many other matters. We are looking to recruit a policy manager, reporting to the Director General, to help further support this work.
The key tasks will include:
- Working with members to identify key policy issues and developing our position
- Working to influence decision makers to deliver our position through consultation responses, position papers, promoting the case for rail freight and other measures
- Communicating our policies and views to industry bodies, government departments and other stakeholders
- Supporting our work and events, and supporting our members on policy topics
- Supporting our member forums, in particular our platinum sponsor forums.
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex areas to non-experts
- Experience in stakeholder management across a broad range of organizations and people, including finding consensus within a range of different views
- The ability to work independently and to be proactive in support of our aims
- A good working knowledge of the UK rail policy environment, and preferably of the rail freight sector, is desirable
This job is offered on a full-time basis and supports flexible working options. Some travel will be required, including occasional overnight stays.
Salary band is between £60k-70k.
