PMO Analyst – Manchester (with Hybrid working available)

Purpose of job role

You will be responsible for actively supporting the Head of the iPMO to create a highly disciplined, effective, and controlled project management environment to execute Project Management controls to ensure successful delivery across the Major Projects Directorate Portfolio. Introducing effective controls (including Benefits Management) forms an essential service within the newly formed PMO. This integral role sits within the iPMO function of the Major Projects Directorate, to provide the programme management structures and processes to enable our Route Upgrade Delivery Partner function to facilitate the wider industry programme in planning and delivery. Ensuring accurate tracking and reporting is in place to keep decision makers informed of key risks / issues and support the planning and implementation of mitigations is also essential to the role.

About the job role

  • Benefits Realisation; Responsible for working with individual project teams to identify, manage, monitor, and report key benefits. Provide assurance to the Head of the iPMO and the Major Projects Director, highlighting challenges and issues of benefit realisation.
  • Programme Methodology: Ensure Project controls acts as the custodian of programme methodology and programme management standards and ensuring that key deliverables are produced. Champion the TPE processes, methods, and tools; working directly with project and senior project managers to successfully execute the delivery using the approved corporate standards. Provide projects with the necessary programme control templates and processes required to underpin successful delivery.
  • Quality Control: establish consistent practices and standards for project planning, reporting, deliverables management, dependencies, change control, risks, and issues management. Monitor the adherence to the TPE standards, processes and maintenance/use of tools and templates as agreed with the Business Assurance Directorate; conducting internal checks where necessary and invoking recovery methods if required.
  • Continuous Improvement of the reporting requirements from TPE into industry-wide investment programmes, projects and their associated programme governance, ensuring timely and accurate data is provided.
  • Information Management; Ensure the quality and consistency of data supports the governance process. Champion the iPMO data repository, ensuring master copies of programme deliverables exist and are maintained
  • Change Control; Ensure changes to deliverables, quality criteria and timelines are properly and appropriately managed. Manage the Change Control process in line with the defined Programme Change Control standards
  • Dependency Management; Develop and Maintain the Portfolio Dependency Log ensuring that across the Portfolio the Projects/Programmes are actively identifying and managing dependencies.
  • Stakeholder Management; Build and maintain positive relationships with the internal Delivery Partnership Team and external stakeholders. Provide training and coaching where appropriate of processes, methods, and tools.
  • Participate in initiatives to meet our  Business Plan Commitments and assist with other activities within the directorate as required.
  • Develop/improve the Programme Planning Standards to outline the approach to the development and maintenance of the Programme plans, Workstream plans, Deliverables Tracker and PID’s
  • Any other duties required by for the Head of iPMO
