I am looking for an Off Track Technician to carry out technical excellence on the railway across Oxfordshire.
This role involves outdoor maintenance and repair work alongside railway tracks, focusing on areas like vegetation management, drainage, and fencing to ensure safe railway operations. It requires leadership, safety awareness, and problem-solving skills, with full training provided and career growth within rail.
The Role:
The Off-Track team is an essential part of keeping the railway running smoothly. Every day brings new challenges, from troubleshooting issues to performing maintenance tasks. You’ll take on key responsibilities like fence repairs, vegetation control, maintaining drainage, and ensuring safe access points.
As a technician, you’ll work outdoors as part of a team, helping to ensure the safety and reliability of the railway network for both passenger and freight services.
The technicians serve as the crucial connection between team leaders and field operatives, specialising in various areas. In this role, you will focus on Off-Track operations: maintaining, inspecting, and repairing the land adjacent to the rail network to ensure a safe and efficient railway system. This includes tasks like managing vegetation, maintaining drainage systems, and addressing ancillary structures.
Off-Track Technicians work outdoors year-round, in all weather conditions, both day and night. The job can be physically demanding, involving manual labour and transporting equipment over challenging terrain. Safety awareness, strict adherence to regulations, and strong teamwork are essential, as you’ll often be working close to high-speed trains.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain, inspect, and repair land alongside the track network, including vegetation management, drainage, and ancillary structures.
Work outdoors in all conditions, across various terrains, at any time of the day or night.
Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the railway by following strict safety protocols and working near moving trains.
Lead a team when directed by the team leader, ensuring safe work delivery and that all team members meet required competencies.
Serve as a role model for safe working practices, challenging unsafe situations to ensure team safety.
Deliver clear instructions to the team and communicate effectively with colleagues.
Solve problems by identifying safe and effective solutions and staying updated with new standards and procedures.
Continuously develop technical and non-technical skills relevant to the discipline.
Work with the team to support various maintenance tasks, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Required Skills:

Relevant Qualification – Hold an NVQ Level 1 or 2, or equivalent experience in your field.
