We’re looking for an experienced engineer to support maintenance, overhaul, and project activities at the Manchester Traincare Centre (TCC). This role involves reviewing technical documentation, developing procedures, supporting fault diagnosis, and providing expert advice across teams. You’ll also help drive continuous improvement, liaise with suppliers, and ensure high standards in safety, performance, and cost-efficiency.
We’ll look to you for:
Review technical documentation supplied to the TCC by WCML Engineering or the customer.
Prepare and issue local technical procedures and documentation.
Prepare local technical briefs.
Provide engineering advice and project support to the Projects Manager
Assist in the development of T&RS training material.
Provide engineering advice and project support to the Production Teams and Workshop Team
Provide engineering advice and project support to the TCC Management Team.
Assist the Commercial Manager/Central Materials Team and Central sales and tendering team during the tendering process.
Attend contract review meetings as required.
Assist in the identification of tooling.
Assist in the identification of materials and advise on stock levels and usage.
Assist in the development and continuous improvement of the maintenance regime in order optimise vehicle performance and cost effectiveness.
Assist in the development and continuous improvement of the maintenance regime in order optimize the performance and cost effectiveness of all T&RS equipment overhauled/repair.
Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and specialist engineers as necessary to resolve technical problems.
Ensure that a library of controlled documentation is maintained to support the maintenance of all T&RS maintained.
Ensure that a library of controlled documentation is maintained to support the overhaul/repair of T&RS equipment.
Undertake projects or tasks as requested by the Project Manager.
Assist the Production Department with fault diagnosis and other technical incidents.
Participate in regular technical meetings with the customer, and WCML Engineering.
Carry out product audits as per the audit schedule.
Carry out technical investigations and where necessary produce relevant reports.
Produce workflow project plans for maintenance and overhaul tasks undertaken.

Minimum of a HNC (or equivalent experience) in an Engineering field.
IT skills – competent user of Personal Computer, including office packages, e-mail, Internet.
Good communication, verbal and written, report writing and organisational skills.
Technical knowledge of relevant Traction and Rolling Stock.
Knowledge and understanding of Network Rail Rules and Regulations.
Excellent organisational and planning skills.
Knowledge of Rail industry IT systems, SAP, COSHH Ravers, Trust and Gemini.
