This is an exciting role to join the Transport Team as a Management Accountant. Ideally you will qualified or in the final stages of studying towards a formal accountancy qualification and have previous experience within Management Accounting. The role is hybrid and you are required to attend the office c2/3 days per week.

What you’ll do:

Reporting to the Finance Business Partner – Asset Management, the Management Accountant will work as part of the Transport Finance team providing financial reporting, analysis and support for the Rail & Metro Maintenance businesses. The candidate needs to be a motivated individual who is a very accurate completer finisher who thrives in a busy team environment. This is a solid management accounting role suitable for someone who has the confidence to be able to challenge as well as support the project management team and build good relationships with stakeholders to ensure project delivery is in line with agreed financial budgets.​​​​​​​

Providing support for all financial aspects of an end to end business unit, working closely with the Finance Business Partner & Rail & Metro Maintenance Management Team
Production of accurate and timely financial information monthly – mainly project profit and loss accounts, working capital analysis, trend analysis, revenue and costs forecasts.
Review of all balance sheet items including WIP, Accrued Income, Cost Accruals and Payment Advances from customer.
Revenue recognition by working closely with the Rail & Metro teams to assess cost-to-complete and cost-at-completion.
Building P&Ls from scratch for new projects awarded and working closely with Project Management team to ensure robust review of sales, costs and margin for the whole life of the project
Hold monthly contract reviews with the team to review financial performance and re-forecast accurately
Financial reporting – OSM, P&L, Working Capital, YTD & full year commentary, Causals (fcst v prior year and fcst v bdgt)
Identify Opportunities & Vulnerabilities
Management of two direct line reports (Assistant Management Accountants)
Assist in the production of P&L forecasts and setting of the annual budgets and quarterly forecast submission using Oracle PBCS
Monthly cash flow and invoicing forecast
Month end procedures including sales accruals/retentions, journals, over / under overhead recovery analysis, orderbook rec etc.
Support the FBP in preparing monthly financial presentation for the regular business reviews chaired by the Managing Director
Liaising with external auditors and addressing queries
Identify and improve financial processes to ensure effective information is provided to aid decision making and improve business performance as well as improving financial reporting and control
Dealing with ad-hoc accounting queries as and when they arise
Prepare & review actual costs rates with full analysis for TfL contract (1FM).

Who you are:

You will ideally be a qualified accountant, who is a self starter and can work well within a team. You will have excellent inter-personal skills, be pro-active and can demonstrate strong influencing skills.

Key requirements:

Relevant experience working in a management accounting role within a contracting/project accounting environment.
Self-motivated
Good communicator
Able to manage heavy workload & strict deadlines
Intermediate Level Excel (vlookups, sumifs, if/ifs, combination of formulas)
Experience of managing multiple stakeholders.
Attention to detail
Oracle essential
Qualified CIMA/ACCA Accountant. ​​​​​​​
