About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Fitter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for carrying out inspections, maintenance, and repairs on freight wagons to ensure they are safe, reliable, and available for service. You will play a key part in maintaining operational performance and safety standards within our fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and reactive maintenance on freight wagons.
  • Identify and repair mechanical faults and defects.
  • Conduct Traffic Inspections (TI), Preventative Planned Maintenance (PPM), and Vehicle Inspection & Brake Tests (VIBT).
  • Carry out minor fabrication and welding tasks.
  • Work safely in line with Health & Safety procedures and Safe Systems of Work (SSoW).
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and support continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

  • Mechanical or Maintenance Engineering background (qualification or experience).
  • Experience in wagon or heavy mechanical maintenance.
  • Knowledge of railway standards and safety systems.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organisation skills.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From £16.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
