About the job:

Lead the company’s strategy in reducing crime and improving security, including being responsible for the company’s statutory and regulatory duties. Accountability for our safeguarding strategy and driving down incidents of workplace violence.

Works closely with the Head of Occupational Safety to drive a positive safety culture within the business and leads on safety and security training.

 

Your main responsibilities will be:

Lead the company’s efforts in reducing crime and improving security, including being responsible for the company’s statutory and regulatory duties.
Work with BTP and other agencies to reduce incidents of crime and disorder, suicide and increase public confidence by impacting positively on your voice/ passenger/ customer surveys
Manage period meetings with security agencies to target crime hot-spots and reduce and prevent fatalities
Support line management in delivery of security briefings, ensuring that they are clearly understood by all
Responsible for security compliance and legislation (inc CCTV)
Responsible for high profile management of security across both the team and the wider network
Formulate annual strategies in relation to such areas of trespass, vulnerable people and staff assaults with accountability for ensuring they are embedded across the business
Ensure the appropriate action plans are in place to address identified issues set out in the strategy as well as emerging issues and leading the delivery of these through others
Manage security committees where applicable and represent the company at internal and external security and community safety meetings as required
Be the responsible holder of the company’s security related documentation
Deliver the annual security budget
Responsible for delivering safety and security training to the business to retain compliance.
Manage/Support internal professional standards investigations
Stand in for the Safety and Security Director when needed.

To motivate and encourage employees at all levels, including but not limited to professional staff, management level employees and executive leadership team members
Coaches, and supports team members to maximise their potential and performance, encouraging their teams to reflect on how their actions drive and reflect the organisation’s culture
Ensures adequate professional training and development plans are in place for themselves and their team.

 

As a minimum, you will need to have:

Degree level qualification or equivalent experience of Crime Prevention and/or NPSA qualifications
Membership of a professional organisation such as the institute of security professionals
Significant senior level experience of leading and motivating large and specialist teams
Good knowledge of Crime and Security
National Security clearance
Proven experience of creating and maintaining positive long-term relationships with communities, service organisations, businesses, customers and work colleagues
Experience in reporting and analysing security data.

 

Desirable Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

Knowledge of policing of the railways
Knowledge and experience of railway industry security requirements, specifically the National Rail Security Programme (NRSP)
Co-ordination and delivery of safety and security training

 

Working pattern:

Working an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days

Predominantly 9-5 but a requirement to work some weekends when there are major planned events on the network (and short notice when there are unplanned events) and to be part of the security on call and senior manager on call roster.
