Reporting to the Fleet Quality Manager, this pivotal role ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of East Midlands Railway’s Fleet Function. You’ll develop and maintain standards, procedures, and documentation in line with legislation, industry requirements, and ISO standards—supporting Our Safety Certificate and continuous improvement.

You’ll also lead Business Continuity planning across all our depots, building and testing robust strategies to keep operations running safely with minimal disruption during incidents or emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with railway legislation, industry standards, ISO:9001, and our Safety Certificate.
  • Manage the planning, approval, publication, and control of fleet procedures and documentation.
  • Lead the development, maintenance, and testing of Business Continuity Plans (BCPs).
  • Identify risks, implement mitigation strategies, and ensure depot readiness for disruption.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to keep processes, procedures, and BCPs fit for purpose.
  • Support audits, assurance checks, and ISO accreditation retention.
  • Drive continual improvement by adopting best practice across the Fleet function.
  • Manage suppliers providing documentation or related services.

About you

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Level 4 qualification (or equivalent), ideally in an engineering/technical discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of rail vehicle maintenance, ECM regulations, and industry standards.
  • Experience in Business Continuity planning and quality systems (ISO 9000).
  • Qualified internal auditor with understanding of audits and compliance.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills, with proficiency in MS Office.

An understanding of rail vehicle maintenance practices and operations, including relevant principles and standards, is desirable, along with competence in depot safety rules and PTS.

While located in Derby this role will be expected to work across all Fleet Locations.

We have a hybrid working policy which is applicable for this role. This means the role can be based at home 2-3 days and onsite 2-3 days per week. Should you wish to work full time on site, this is also an option.
