Brief Description:

As an Engineer in the North West & Central Team you will be a key part of the team responsible for the successful delivery of the civils assessment framework agreement (CAFA) project. This project involves approximately 800 annual bridge assessments ranging from a simple Level 0 through to detailed level 2 assessments requiring finite element modelling experience. With an emphasis on achieving capacity in accordance with Route Availability requirements.

 

About the role:
1. Provide structural engineering expertise in assessments. Support the Delivery of the CAFA project in accordance with functional policy to achieve financial and output targets.

2. Reviewing of assessment reports (Form AA & BA’s) and advise on the implementation of mitigation measures to achieve compliance and manage risk.

3. Assist the current Senior Engineer in the management of sub-standard structures with the development of interim mitigations and permanent intervention measures.

4. Develop relationships with external consultants and ensure the quality of submitted assessments through adherence to process and standards.

5. Liaise with the route-based engineering teams to discuss the outcomes of the structural assessments and agree suitable management and mitigation plans.

6. Liaise with the central structures team to develop and disseminate consistent best practice and in the review and development of functional policy and standards.

7. Maintain structures asset data and information within the company systems and processes. Identify trends arising from assessment evaluation for asset capability, risk assessments and failure precursors.

8. Support the review and development of national standards relating to structures Asset Management.

9. Provide engineering support and participate in investigations of incidents relating to structures.

10. Review proposals from other disciplines or external organisations that could impact on the route structures assets and/or programmes of work to identify potential synergies or conflicts.

11. Support the process for the review and approval of abnormal vehicular and rail loads.

 

In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be;

HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering
Substantial relevant experience in structures or civil engineering
A sound knowledge of structures engineering policies and standards
Knowledge of Structures Assessment
An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.

 

We would also like but it isn’t crucial to have/to be:

Degree in a relevant subject
Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer
Member of, or working towards membership of, a relevant professional institution.
Knowledge and experience in the assessment of Highway and Railway bridges
Knowledge of material types, Concrete, Masonry, Steel, Post & Pre tensioned concrete
Knowledge of structures engineering policies and standards.
An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.

 

Salary: £43,588 – £50,018
