Your Role:
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work across all areas of the business from established customers, trials and bids, to new vehicle installations. Activities will centre around the design and assessment of the mechanical components for the installation of sensors on rail customer vehicles and new product development. The role will require working with the engineering control processes defined by both internal and client engineering teams, while complying with the relevant company and industry standards.
Some role responsibilities include:
Design mechanical components for the installation of sensors to be fitted to rail customer vehicles.
Produce designs that meet the relevant internal and industry standards.
Conduct FEA analysis of components and installations, presenting the results in high-quality customer-facing documentation.
Work to the established processes defined by the design department in the UK and contribute to improving them for the future.
Support internal and external customers.
Comply with all statutory, industry, corporate, customer and local QHS&E requirements.
Communicating effectively, formally and informally, with colleagues and customers.
About you:
A minimum of a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related subject.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate an innovative approach to design and problem solving.
Keen to keep abreast of latest trends and technologies in Mechanical Engineering and develop your professional skills.
Desirable Requirements:
Prior experience working within a similar, technical engineering role, with a focus on design.
Track record of delivering in challenging engineering projects
Experience performing structural calculations and analysis including analytical calculations and FEA, particularly ABAQUS.
Chartered Engineer status.
Detailed understanding of the fatigue behaviour of metals.
Detailed understanding and experience of the analysis of jointed & bolted structures.
