We have a really exciting and rare opportunity for a Sustainability and Compliance Manager to take a key role in shaping, delivering, and reporting on our sustainability strategy.

 

We are looking for a passionate and ethical sustainability professional to join our ‘Getting There Greener’ mission – delivering and assuring environmental, social, and governance compliance across our network.

 

From existing and new train emissions, station and depot energy efficiency, seamless/ integrated travel to resource and biodiversity management. The Sustainability and Compliance Manager will drive compliance and reporting, project manage improvement initiatives and embed and advocate for our sustainability strategy.

Reporting directly to the Environment & Sustainability Manager, you will work closely with internal stakeholders, and key external partners to drive performance, influence strategic direction, and embed sustainability at the heart of our operations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Lead on the collection, analysis and reporting of sustainability performance data, ensuring data quality and timely reporting to stakeholders.
Engage and collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders including subject matter experts to cascade and advocate the sustainability agenda, performance and strategy effectively.
Develop and deliver the Sustainability Board Report, aligning KPIs with business strategy and regulatory commitments.
Oversee the environmental audit programme and ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and best practice.
Manage and deliver key sustainability improvement projects in line with our business plans.
Act as a key contact for external bodies including the Environment Agency, Department for Transport, ORR, and Network Rail.

 

What We’re Looking For:

A formal environmental qualification or equivalent experience, ideally with IEMA Associate or Practitioner Membership.
Practical experience in environmental management role, within a regulated industry with proven experience implementing change resulting in improved sustainability performance.
Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and audit practices.
Exceptional data analysis and reporting skills, with a keen eye for detail.
A confident communicator who can engage effectively at all levels, both internally and externally.
Self-driven, proactive, and capable of managing complex information and projects with minimal supervision.
