Overview

Zed Rail Limited are recruiting for an experienced Buyer to join a high-profile renewable energy project in the West Midlands. This is a contract role, outside IR35, offering the opportunity to support procurement activities on one of the UK’s landmark energy transition developments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for procuring materials, equipment, and subcontract services, ensuring best value while maintaining quality and compliance across the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the procurement of materials, plant, and subcontract services for civil and construction packages.
Develop and maintain strong supplier and subcontractor

relationships to secure competitive pricing and reliable delivery.
Negotiate contracts, terms, and framework agreements in line with project requirements.
Raise purchase orders, manage invoicing queries, and maintain procurement records.
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and site teams to forecast material demand and align supply with project timelines.
Ensure all procurement activities comply with contractual, commercial, and health & safety obligations.
Monitor supplier performance, addressing issues and driving continuous improvement.
Support budget management, cost reporting, and commercial tracking.

Experience & Skills Required

Proven experience in a Buyer/Procurement role within construction, civils, and renewables.
Strong commercial and negotiation skills with a track record of securing value through procurement.
Familiarity with procurement processes for major civils energy projects.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to manage multiple packages in a fast-paced project environment.
Strong IT skills, ideally with procurement/ERP systems experience.
Immediate availability preferred due to contract nature.
