We are working with the largest UK Train Operating Company (currently posting revenues of over £8.9Billion the last seven years), who are seeking to recruit a Train Cleaner to join the Train Presentation team based at their Bedford Cauldwell Walk Depot. We are a stock market recognised recruitment agency, specialising in the transportation, infrastructure, construction and engineering sectors on both permanent and contract basis.

 

Our client covers the Southeast, Greater London & East Anglia areas – this includes Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, London & Hertfordshire. As a result of this, they have a large fleet of trains – 516 to be precise, so it’s safe to say you will be active & busy within your role!

 

We are looking to hire someone with a ‘go getter’ attitude who isn’t afraid to get stuck in and can lead a team by example.

 

The Role:

As a Train Cleaner, you will be joining the ‘Heavy Cleans’ team carrying out deep cleans on the interior of the Thameslink fleet. The role itself will consist of all aspects of Train Cleaner duties, including hoovering the floors, mopping/buffering the floors, wiping down and sanitizing touch points, inspecting/maintaining toilets, cleaning graffiti and more. There is one cleaner per 3 or 4 carriages, meaning you will be working in a team of 4 at most times.

 

The depot itself is relatively large in its presence with a requirement to be physically fit to move around the depot with no restrictions.

 

The Hours:

Your roster works on a Monday – Friday basis with the working hours being from 22:00 – 05:00. However, any potential candidates must have the availability to work from 18:00 onwards as that is when overtime typically starts.

 

Remuneration & Benefits:

This rail company has on offer the following for contract staff:

Standard Hours (35 hours standard per week) – £13.85 p/h
Overtime & Rest Days – £20.78 p/h
Sunday Nights – £24.24 p/h
Weekly pay. Pay increase after 12 weeks as part of Agency Workers’ Rights
Full PPE and comprehensive on-the-job training provided

Requirements:

Be able to pass a Drugs & Alcohol test
Provide your Right to Work documents before deployment
Happy to help mentality/attitude, someone who is proactive, can think for themselves
A decent fitness is needed as the site is very large and will involve a lot of walking, so please keep this in mind when applying
Be able to attend 1 day of training on 09/07/2025 at 18:00
