We have an exciting opportunity to join Our Team as a Audit and Investigations Manager

As an Audit and Investigations Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and efficiency of our Fleet function. You will lead audits and assurance activities, while taking the lead on accident and incident investigations across a range of disciplines, including engineering and operations.

You’ll also work with internal and external experts to identify root causes, oversee the quality and timeliness of local investigations, and ensure that corrective actions are effectively implemented. You’ll also support and mentor fleet team members to build investigative capability, while delivering both scheduled and ad hoc audits aligned with business priorities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and deliver internal and external audits across the Fleet Function
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and operational deficiencies within the Fleet Function
  • Plan and manage all aspects of audit preparation, including documented scopes and stakeholder coordination
  • Work closely with the Fleet Quality Manager and Fleet Assurance Manager to deliver the annual audit plan
  • Maintain a library of completed audits and track implementation of audit recommendations
  • Write and publish investigation reports, ensuring root causes are addressed and actions are implemented
  • Manage and monitor the close-out of investigation actions across all Fleet locations
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and support to Fleet team members on audit and investigation processes
  • Continuously identify and share best practices from both within and outside the rail industry
  • Ensure personal competence in audit and investigation practices remains current and compliant

What we’re looking for

  • Educated to HNC level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
  • Qualified internal and external auditor
  • Competent in accident investigation techniques and root cause analysis
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to identify improvements and challenge constructively
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively across teams and stakeholders
  • Strong ability to interpret technical standards and documentation
  • Excellent written communication skills for clear and concise reporting
  • Strong understanding of rail vehicle maintenance practices and operational standards is preferable
  • Knowledge and application of depot safety rules and Personal Track Safety (PTS) is desirable

While located in Derby this role will be expected to work across all our Fleet Locations.

We employ a hybrid working policy which is applicable for this role. This means the role can be based at home 2-3 days and onsite 2-3 days per week. Should you wish to work full time on site, this is also an option.
